If you experience dental anxiety, you are not alone! Many adult patients find themselves nervous before or during their time in the dental chair. Working with a dentist who offers oral conscious sedation is the first step in having a positive experience when visiting the office and completing your upcoming dental work with our skilled team of professionals here at Northwest Dental Center of Boise, Idaho.
Our dentists describe oral conscious sedation as addressing dental anxiety and putting patients at ease during their visit to Northwest Dental Center. Drs. Don Cook and David Bingham understand that dental appointments can be stressful even for adults, which is why we may prescribe a sedative for an individual. Before the appointment, the patient will pick up their medication at a pharmacy and take it approximately one hour before their appointment. They must arrange transportation to and from the office with a friend, family member, or coworker, as they cannot drive or operate machinery while the sedative is actively working.
Oral conscious sedation allows patients to complete necessary dental work even with anxiety. It calms them but keeps them awake and coherent. In fact, they can use the restroom or answer questions from our dental team while sedated. However, after their appointment, they should return home to rest and may awaken with little or no recollection of their visit to the dentist’s chair—but their dental work completed!
